Chartered Yacht Cruises in Croatia
The magnificent coastline of Croatia is dotted with islands - nearly 1,200 of them - but only 67 are inhabited. It is one of the most stunning and unspoiled landscapes in Europe.
Croatia is also home to many cultural and historical sites: the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pula, the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian in Split, and the Romanesque cities of Krk, Rab, Pag, Korcula and Trogir.
If you wish to sail the Croatian coast with us it is important that we book these places in advance, should you wish to visit them. Contact us today to book your trip!
Culture & History
Dubrovnik is an immaculately preserved 13th century fortified city with Renaissance towers, churches and harbor. And Hvar boasts the country's oldest public theater - dating from 1612. And there are the beautiful churches; the basilica of Euphrasius in Porec, the pre-Romanesque church of St Donat in Zadar, Sibenik cathedral, and many others.
In addition to the splendid scenery and cultural sites, you'll be witness to some of the great history of the world. For centuries the Adriatic has been a thriving trade route. The east coast was inhabited in the early Stone Age.
Thanks to the area's numerous bays, inlets and coves, it became a significant mercantile and nautical route over the centuries. The Romans came and built palaces and summer residences here.
In the late 18th and early 19th century, Napoleon ruled for a short period of time, after which he was replaced by the Austrian monarchy. Ports were built and fortified, trade and shipbuilding flourished. During the two World Wars, the Adriatic again saw conflict, and there are many shipwrecks dating from all these periods.
Food & Drink
An Aegean Sails experience wouldn't be complete without great cuisine and an introduction to some of the fine wines of the area. South-east Europe is rich in ancient grape varietals. And these have persisted here despite the invasion of better known French species.
The Dalmatian coast is one of the most diverse and unusual wine-growing regions in Europe, with thousands of small vineyards. The wines produced here vary from dry to sweet and from delicate to potent. The principal red grape of the region is the Plavac Mali, used to make Dingac and Postup, strong sweetish wines from the Peljesac Peninsula north of Dubrovnik. Prosek is also made from Plavac Mali.
The islands produce red wine and much of the region's most famous white wines. We can tailor your trip to enable you to explore the wines of Croatia, their many varietals, and learn of their history and traditions. Aegean Sails will give you a voucher to allow you to go wine tasting - and even have a meal with a 10% discount.
